In the early 1970s, while a college student, Richard tried a pair of Birkenstock sandals. After college, he changed his career in academics to becoming an entrepreneur. The rest is history. The 1970s ushered in a lot of new ideas, one of which was footwear made in Europe that was anatomically designed and better for the foot. Footgear was an early destination for those customers who wanted to try these new innovations. For 30 years, Richard has tried to stick to his original plan - and has, for the most part, eschewed footwear that is made primarily for fashion in favor of footwear made primarily for support and function. Presently, most commercial stores sell Chinese-made products. And, although some of these brands are reasonably good, the footwear made in Europe is of better quality and designed to be healthier for the feet.
